FAQ

Once you book your place I will send out information about what to expect and what you need to bring with you, as this will vary depending on the specific event.

However, the recurring items will be:

  • Suitable clothing and footwear for the forecasted weather (and also be prepared for the weather to be variable!) This includes warm layers, waterproofs and shoes / boots that are outdoor friendly and you don’t mind getting muddy.
  • Water
  • Any medication and emergency medication you may need, ie Asthma inhaler, Epipen etc.

Detailed directions will be sent to you after you have booked for an event.

Through this work I hope to encourage you to get outdoors more often, and that means embracing the changeable weather. All forms of weather, even the wind, rain and cold is good for us!

If we plan to be in a woodland location, and the forecast is above 35mph, I will postpone the event on safety grounds.

If it’s wet, cold, below those wind speeds, we will go ahead.

Depending on the event and location, we may have an option to go indoors or under cover, or warm up around a campfire. This will all be included in your info email after you have booked your place.

That’s totally understandable, and you are not alone. Many others will be attending on their own and have the same concerns.  All activities are optional, they are invitations not compulsory. My goal is for you to enjoy your experience and feel better as a result of coming. What that ‘better’ is will vary from person to person.  You are welcome to have time out if you need to.

If you’d like to have a chat with me prior to the event, I’d be happy to do so.

Yes and no! Due to the natural landscapes I run events in, some of them may not be suitable access wise. I can send you detailed information including photos so you can have a look and decide for yourself as to whether a particular site is doable for you.

If you would like one to one support or to join a group of others living with limited mobility, then get in touch – I offer specific events and activities targeted to your needs.

‘Exercise’ is a human made and modern concept. Our ancestors did not slip on their running trainers and tick off a 5km on the treadmill or bang out 3 sets of 12 bicep curls at the gym! Their life was active by necessity – think hunting and gathering food – and for community – think dancing and storytelling around the fire. Each day would involve a variety of movement or physical activity which was simply part of their normal way of living, not something they had to think about or schedule in. Anthropologists have demonstrated this in tribes that still exist today such as the Tarahumara and Hadza tribes.

Daniel Lieberman‘s work suggests that from an evolutionary perspective our bodies are not designed to ‘exercise’ AKA participate in ‘voluntary exertion’ because the goal is actually to conserve energy. Why use up precious energy on ‘working out’ when we need all of it to source food for our family or protect our tribe from predators?! This is a big reason why many of us find it so hard to exercise consistently. It’s just not the natural approach for the human body!

Using the term ‘movement’ helps us reframe the role of physical activity, and expands the task beyond sets, reps and PB’s. Our bodies have evolved to be specialists in walking, as bipedal animals who walk on two feet. Given the opportunity, our bodies are also rather skilled at running, crawling, hanging (brachiation), jumping, throwing, carrying and climbing. Therefore, including a variety of these kinds of movements throughout our life helps achieve what so many of us want: health, vitality, strength, agility and mental clarity. These more natural forms of movement can be fun and playful whilst also effective. It can involve more traditional gym equipment like kettlebells or gym rings too – there are no rules!

Movement – in all its forms – is medicine.

Yes of course! If you are living with one or all of those you are so welcome to join me! We all have ‘stuff’ going on, which isn’t always visible to the outside world. I believe in celebrating what our bodies CAN do, with no pressure to fit social media faux ideals of body shape, size or ability.

I can provide more info on what we do before you attend to help alleviate any fears, and make suggestions on how we can adapt to make it work for you and your body.

Yes, they are open to all genders – all are welcome. Whilst I acknowledge it can be helpful to meet with others just of your own sex for connection and support, I am keen to provide a space where we can all meet under the same sky.

I want as many people as possible to benefit from nature (re)connection, and believe that your financial situation should not be a barrier. The sliding scale offers multiple price points for (some) of my events meaning you should be able to find the one that you can afford. You can choose how much to pay based on your individual circumstances.

The graphic below gives you an indication of what each price point represents so you can find where you fall on the scale.
Eventbrite booking pages will include these pricing options for each individual event.

If you are in a financial position to enable someone on low / no income to join me, then please do! Eventbrite booking pages will include this option, or get in touch with me directly to make someone’s day! Thank you for your kindness.

Yes you can, of course! However, practices like Forest Bathing can be just as powerful, if not more so when you share the experience with others. We are designed to thrive most when part of a community, and sharing these experiences with a group can help embed the meaning or insights and provide support when needed. Moving in a pack at classes adds to the fun, builds camaraderie, and provides accountability – it gets you out of the door on those cold winter days when the pull of the sofa is so loud!

Even if you have a solid wellbeing practice of your own it can sometimes be helpful to attend events like those I offer, to inspire new approaches, add variety or reignite a long standing routine.

It happens, life can get in the way of our best intentions. Please let me know as soon as possible by calling or texting me on 07786 916954. This limits any time spent waiting for you to arrive and delaying the event for everyone else.

Please see cancellation policy below – extenuating circumstances may override it.

If you cancel within 5 days of the event, I will retain 40% of the fee already paid OR transfer your place to another of my events within a 6 month period.

If you cancel 6 days or more before the event, you will receive a full refund or the option to transfer your place to another of my events within a 6 month period.

If I cancel, I will offer you a refund or the choice to move your booking to another of my events within a 12 month period.

Please note this is purely to protect myself as a small independent business with bills to pay!

Disclaimer

It is your responsibility to evaluate your suitability for an event, and by booking an event it is on the understanding of the varying nature of being outdoors. Outdoor events involve uneven paths, inclines, declines, trip, slip and fall hazards, and varying weather conditions.
I do not offer counselling or therapy, but spending time with nature and taking part in the practices can have a therapeutic effect. If you are currently working with a Mental Health Professional you are encouraged to speak with them first to discuss your suitability to attend.

Please consult your GP or Consultant before attending movement classes to discuss your suitability to take part.

By joining an event you agree to hold Becky Brandwood-Cormack and Our Wild Edges free from any liability resulting from you partaking in an event.
